This great church was organized at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Charles Ambrose on Pennsylvania Avenue In 1886. In 1888, the Trustees of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church (Charles Ambrose. Zachariah Jinlack and others) purchased two lots on the corners of Lyman And Pennsylvania Avenues from the Winter Park Company. for the sum of $55. As such, we were the first baptist church to be organized and established In Winter Park.

Mt. Moriah called its first pastor, Rev. C. J. Smith, in 1887. He was moderator of the South Florida Association. Under Rev. Smith's leadership, Mt. Moriah joined the Association In 1910 at its 22nd Annual Session.

The first choir in Mt. Moriah (Choir NO.1) was organized In 1913; In 1932, Choir No.2, 1933, Usher Board No.1.

A gift of $10,000 from William Courser, in 1935, enabled the church to build its present sanctuary. Rev. I. C. Nimmons was the pastor. Under his leadership several events took place. The Missionary Society, Junior Church and the Junior Choir were organized.

In 1941. Mt. Moriah called its eighth pastor, Rev. L.A. Pelham. Under his leadership Mt. Moriah became an every-Sunday Church. During this tenure, the church raised nearly five-thousand dollars ($5,000) to build a parsonage and buy new pews.

In later years renovations of the church and annex took place. The choir stand was enlarged, restrooms were built, new lights were installed and a new kitchen was built in the annex. The entrance to the church was completely remodeled and a communion room was built.

The Young Adult Choir (The Inspirational Choir) was organized In 1959. A new Junior Women Missionary Society was organized in 1971.

Because of the church's Increased size and need for more space, a new parsonage was created on Swoope Avenue. The old parsonage now houses a workroom for the church's secretary, pastor's study, a library, nursery, and Sunday School rooms.

Rev. C.R. Taylor was called in 1982. Several programs were initiated under Rev. Taylor's tenure. A Christian Education director, tutorial program, bus ministry, Male Chorus were created. A nursery was organized under the Junior Women. A total of 16 auxiliaries worked together to minister in the name of Jesus Christ.

Today, Mt. Moriah follows the leadership of Its eleventh pastor, Rev. A. C. Cobb. Serving in the capacity of Associate Ministers are: Reverends. Hayward Cleveland, Robert Smith, Ronald Sutton, and Minister James Woods. Rev. Cobb has reactivated the Junior Mission Society, the Church Council. and the Nursery. Several renovations have been done to the present structure which Includes the kitchen and new seats and carpet in the choir stand.
